We hired Watts Needed Electrical: 24/7 Electrician Canberra for a couple of jobs and, while our first experience was reasonably positive, the second job was quite disappointing. The first job went fairly well, although we were not told beforehand that an apprentice would be attending and that we would therefore be paying for two people. This made the job more expensive than expected. We were also told during the initial quote that one of the jobs we wanted was possible, only to later be told it was too difficult to undertake. During that visit, we discussed installing a sensor light at our front door and were told it looked straightforward and should be possible. We subsequently booked a second visit, with the sensor light being the main reason for the call-out, along with a few small fixes from the previous job and fitting a light shade. Unfortunately, the electrician arrived and within minutes expressed uncertainty about how the sensor light could be installed. We were then told it would be significantly more complicated than initially suggested and could cost around $400 extra. We were also told that holes may need to be cut into the roof, the roof removed, or a beam cut into, and that the result may not even provide adequate lighting. We had also arranged for a family member to be present as our representative while we were unavailable, which we made clear when booking. However, the electrician refused to proceed without us personally being there. Had this requirement been communicated when we booked, we would have arranged to attend. We were also told that no additional lights could be installed without upgrading our entire fuse box, despite us simply wanting to replace an existing light with a sensor light. Ultimately, the only new work completed was fitting a light shade, yet we received an invoice for $340. When we queried the charge, we were unable to get a clear breakdown explaining the cost of the small fixes, the brief investigation of the sensor light, and fitting the shade. We felt it was reasonable to pay the call-out fee and the time required to fit the shade, and the owner did reduce the invoice slightly to $298. The biggest frustration was that the sensor light — the main reason we were willing to pay the call-out fee — was not completed. In the end, we found a $30 sensor light bulb at Bunnings, fitted it ourselves, and it works perfectly. Overall, our experience was disappointing. We felt there was a significant gap between what was discussed when quoting/book­ing the work and what was ultimately said and done on the day.

They came promptly on a Friday afternoon after i tried to get 5 other businesses to come out quickly. 2 other contractors hadn’t been able to fix. The problem over the 2 days prior. Took 15 minutes. Reasonably priced too.

Amazing service great prices and very professional. Got an EV charger installed, really happy with it and will definitely be getting further work from Watts Needed for other work at our house.

Watts Needed recently mounted a second TV on the wall in our unit in Kingston. I used them as I had used them previously. They came when they said they would and were polite and efficient. The work was reasonably priced. I recommend them based on my experience.
