Dawson Electric
About
Dawson Electric is based in Woolloongabba, QLD, with a 4.8-star rating from 407 reviews. Most reviewers describe positive experiences with fire alarm installation, switchboard upgrades, EV charger installs, air conditioning servicing, and general lighting and power work, praising punctuality, tidiness, and clear communication. However, at least one detailed review describes a significant dispute over downlights that were not fire-rated as required, along with dissatisfaction over how the business handled the resulting compliance and cost negotiation. Prospective customers should weigh the largely positive feedback against this account for jobs with specific compliance requirements. Overall, the business appears experienced in a broad range of residential electrical and aircon work, though service consistency on complex compliance jobs has been questioned by at least one customer.

In June/July 2025 we asked this business to install 12 downlights in our property. When the electrician came onsite to provide the quote we told him and clarified that the dwownlights needed to be fire rated to comply with the current building fire standards of this complex. We received the quote ($1792.23), the works were done and we paid the invocie. Fast forward 12 months to present (June/July 2026), we had a certified builder/fire inspector carrying out the regular inspections of our complex and he advised us that the dowlights being installed were not fire rated and that they needed to be repalced (for fire rated ones) and that the holes/penetrations be fire-stopped. We called DE and spoke to the GM who told us that it is the property owners responsibility to let the electricians know about the fire requirements of the building. We told her that we did tell the electrician when they/he came onsite to which she replied that the electrician is only young and could have missed that detail or perhaps did not nor hear what we told him. In addition she said that that detail (downlights needed to be fire rated) should have been in writing to them via email even though we have investigated and realised that it is actually the electrician responsibility to thoroughly assess the building and the scope of works to be undertaken... In the end it is a he/she say We called a second time and tried to negotiate a solution to this problem by giving DE an opportunity to rectify the issue. This time the GM offered to meet us in the middle (cost wise) and we assumed she meant she would give us 50% off for them to come back and repalce the downlights and put the fire mastic around the holes in the roof. The following day and to our surprise she sent us a new quote to rectify the issue for $2376 and only offering 20% off instead of what she told us on the phone "meeting us in the middle" which to us means 50% off... So now she was expecting us to pay another $1900.8 including the 20% off which to us is just outreageous. We tried to call back and asked for their receptionist to put us through to the GM so we could ask her what happened to her original offer on the phone yesterday in which she said that she woudl "meet us in the middle" but once again we were told the usual excuses of she is not available and that shes gone for the day, etc At this point we lost our cool a little over the phone and we warned the receptionist that if the GM was not to call us back within 20-30 minutes we would take this issues to social media and also to QBCC The GM did not call us back but instead sent us an email within 20 minutes of us hanging up on her receptionist stating that now the 20% offer of good will has been withdrawn and that they will not undertake any more works for us here at our property. We feel deeply dissapointed to say the least because the original works were not carryied out to the current fire standards and we think there was no integrity in the offer of good will she told/gave us over the phone when she said she would "meet us half way" in terms of the new costs. Unfortunately the matter now is with Workplace Health & Safety Queensland and if not resolve we will take it to QBCC. In addition to all this, they had to move 2 ceiling fans and placed them right next to eachother (within 40cm, against Aus standards) and we had to pay extra for them to come back and move them again. In fairness, the electricians who came onsite were well mannered and respectful. Unfortunately it is now clear that they were not experienced. In summary, we would not recommed this business. No integrity, no accountability
Dawson is our go-to for anything electrician related, we've used them often over the years. The electricians and staff are friendly and helpful and we're always happy with the results. We had a lovely light installed recently which I love 🙂
We recently had Dawsons electrical install our ceiling fans and a new smoke alarm. Great communication and great service. Highly recommend.
Dylan (electrician) was a professional and completed the work required promptly and politely. The work:-Fire alarm installation and replacement in accordance with the new Queensland Fire Alarm Legislation and Compliance Laws. We were very pleased with the result and took the opportunity to have Dawson Electrical quote and install same day. We were very impressed that the 2 new bedroom fire alarms and the hallway alarm all aligned. Happy with the service provided and the result. Thank you! Regards Lorelle and Conrad Greenwood
Professional, reliable, efficient, and punctual — that’s exactly what you can expect from Dawson. Sam recently visited our property to clean our air conditioner and carry out a safety and compliance inspection. He arrived right on time, was courteous throughout the visit, and left the work area spotless. His attention to detail and professionalism were evident from start to finish. I highly recommend Dawson to anyone looking for quality electrical services.
Kye came out to replace some downlights and he was lovely to deal with. He arrived on time, explained everything and cleaned up any mess left behind. Would definitely recommend Dawson and Kye in future.
Dawson Electric in absolutely deserves 5 stars. We had them complete a switchboard upgrade, install an EV charger, and sort out our fire alarms, and the whole process was excellent from start to finish. The team (including Kendal in the office) were professional, reliable, tidy, and clearly knew what they were doing. The work was completed to a high standard, communication was clear throughout, and everything felt well organised and properly explained. A special mention to Sam, who was outstanding. He was friendly, knowledgeable, punctual, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was done properly. It is rare to find a tradesperson who combines technical skill with that level of customer service. And always greeted us with a smile! Basically, look no further for your electrical work! Highly recommend Dawson Electric to anyone looking for a trustworthy, professional, and customer-focused electrician.
